Scott Reef might be Australia’s greatest living secret. 

Located off WA’s north-west coast, Scott Reef is Australia’s largest stand-alone coral reef atoll, but very few people have ever been there. One of the last remaining vestiges of an ancient reef that once spanned Australia’s west coast, Scott Reef’s magnificent isolation means that ocean wildlife has continued to flourish, little touched by direct human activity. Only now is Scott Reef under direct threat from undersea gas drilling and extraction, bringing an urgency to calls to protect this astonishing place.

Featuring the magnificent work of Kimberley-based photographer Wendy Mitchell who was hosted on a rare expedition to Scott Reef by Greenpeace, this remarkable work features contributions from some of Australia’s most prominent voices, including Peter Garrett, Fiona Stanley and Mick Dodson, along with a cast of scientists, artists, environmentalists and citizens. It is also a project of generations, with emerging voices appearing in print for the first time.
